Explanation of Vehicle Selection

Assessed Model

Passenger cars sold by domestic vehicle manufacturers and vehicle importers in Taiwan (mainly used for passenger transport, equipped with four or more wheels, and the number of seats does not exceed nine) are within the scope of TNCAP’s rating.

The Selection of Vehicles to Be Assessed

TNCAP is a non-mandatory regulation, and the cost of testing and rating for each vehicle model is extremely high. In the case of limited funds, TNCAP cannot assess all of the vehicle models in the market. The funds will be used to conduct only some vehicle models in the market. TNCAP executive agency will investigate best-selling vehicle models in the market and examine the model list, then submit to MOTC for assessment approval. However, MOTC has the priority to designate vehicle models to be assessed. In addition, car manufactures may apply for the assessment at their own expense, but the procedures for purchasing, testing, rating, and publication of vehicle models are of the same way as the assessments by government funding.

Purchasing of Assessed Vehicles and Auto Parts

To ensure the validity and impartiality of the assessments, all TNCAP assessed models have to acquire the Vehicle Safety Type Approval Certificate” already. According to the protocols, all vehicles selected for assessment have to be the same as the vehicles sold to consumers, tested vehicles and auto parts will be purchased by TNCAP executive agency, then send to technical service for conducting all the TNCAP tests.
